Chiropractic, as originally defined, is a holistic philosophy because its foundation is the premise that the whole (functioning body) is greater than the sum of its parts. It is also considered a vitalistic philosophy because it assumes that there is some vital spark or life force that animates the body and that the absence of this animating force results in death.
