Taking Stock In The New Year

Taking Stock In The New YearTaking Stock In The New Year

It seems that the New Year is always a good time to review and reevaluate things. I’d like to encourage you to take a few moments to sit down with a pad of paper and evaluate something very, very important. Your health! Many diseases that crop up have been going on in the body for many, many years prior to symptoms coming to the surface. The body systems being “out of whack” can tell you years ahead of time that unless some changes are made, the future may not hold the level of health and vitality you are looking for.

Digestion: You should not pass gas, bloat after eating, burp, have heartburn, or have indigestion. These symptoms are a signal that the digestive environment is off. A big part of your immune system is housed in your digestive tract, so this imbalance has ramifications that go beyond uncomfortable or embarrassing symptoms. Not to mention the fact that your body cannot properly use your food or vitamins if they are not well digested.

Bowels: The bowels are one of the body’s main channels of elimination of the harmful toxins that your liver so dutifully removes from your bloodstream each day. Toxins that are not moved out of the body within 18 hours are reabsorbed into the bloodstream and force the liver to filter them an additional time. Like your dog, your bowels should move shortly after each time you eat a meal. Constipation resulting in bowels that don’t move even once a day leaves the body extremely toxic and more susceptible to disease.

Water Intake: The proper amount of water to drink is ½ your body weight in ounces. There are several reasons that people choose not to drink a sufficient amount. Sometimes they just don’t feel thirsty. This is not actually due to not needing water. Rather it is because the body will shut down the thirst mechanism when there is insufficient water available to it. Others don’t drink water because they prefer the taste of other beverages such as soda, coffee and tea. These caffeinated drinks leech water from the body so they add to dehydration very quickly.

Diet: Eating the Standard American Diet is not going to keep you healthy. Regardless of how foods are “enriched” or bearing labels that tout their “natural” flavors, these foods are devoid of the nutritional building blocks that your body requires to be nourished. Additionally, being loaded with artificial colors and flavoring, trans fats, and chemical preservatives, they are a burden for your body to handle.

Energy Level: Ideally you will wake feeling refreshed and rested, and your energy level is adequate to take you to the end of the day. It is not “normal” to be tired all the time just because you are 40, 50, 60 or even 80 years old. There are many conditions that contribute to fatigue, and dealing with them now can result in a future that allows you more function, joy and vitality.

Weight: Americans are becoming increasingly overweight. This is due to our diet and lack of activity. It is also often due to an imbalance in the endocrine system which contributes to fat storage in especially the most dangerous places such as those around the middle of the body…giving you the “apple shape”. We offer a simple, effective way to help you shed excess pounds with our Forever Fit! Program.

If your evaluation of these basic health points leaves you feeling like things are not where you’d like them to be, please give us a call.
